There’s still a lot of wild country down in that area
My dad told me
So wild you could get lost, run into a mountain lion, lose your paths trampled by the boars,
A danger still hidden far down in the mines
Find things that are almost forgotten
Coming through the hollers of Harlan hills
A bloody history, ravines still running far and red
I look into them, and I see things that run even farther still
Following them up on the cliff to the peak,
That’s how I see it all, the paths that took me far
for Harlan, Kentucky
Wild country
